Volunteers distribute food across Chicago area
The Hunger Resource Network is back in action for a Community Outreach Day on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at the Whole Foods in Northbrook.

NORTHBROOK, Ill. (WLS) -- The Hunger Resource Network is back in action for a Community Outreach Day on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at the Whole Foods in Northbrook. Together with volunteers, the organization is distributing more than 125,000 pounds of food to more than 100 Chicago area food pantries, homeless shelters, and soup kitchens. Distribution is especially important, with Illinois social services strapped for cash because of the state's budget impasse.

The Hunger Resource Network is always in need of volunteers to spread their good work. Their next Community Outreach Day is expected to be on November 12, 2016. The organization was founded in April 2009 to aid in the alleviation of hunger by helping meet the needs of food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters. President of the Hunger Resource Network, Dan Jariabka, and Henry Fetta joined ABC 7 Eyewitness News live from the Community Outreach Day to talk about the tremendous need in across the Chicago area.
