Chicago Teachers Union votes to cancel election

Chicago Teacher's Union President Karen Lewis

The Chicago Teacher's Union House of Delegates voted to cancel CTU elections because no one was challenging its existing officers, the union said.

The union says cancelling the election will save $300,000. Karen Lewis will maintain her position as union president for a third three-year term. Likewise, Jesse Sharkey will remain vice president, Michael Brunson will remain recording secretary and Maria Moreno will take the place of Kristine Mayle as financial secretary.

Mayle chose not to seek re-election, the union said.
