Nearly 50 years ago, Richard Speck killed 8 nurses in Chicago. The only nurse who survived spoke exclusively with ABC7's Chuck Goudie in 1991. (WLS)

In July 1966, America hadn't yet become numb to random violence. But Richard Speck - a drifter with an attitude, a gun and a knife - changed that.

Speck murdered eight nursing students from South Chicago Community Hospital. There was one survivor: a student nurse who saved herself by hiding under a bed.

She did one television interview 25 years ago with the I-Team - an extraordinary woman who crossed paths with a loathsome man.

Now, with the 50th anniversary of the massacre by Speck approaching, we are recuing our report on the compelling interview with the sole survivor of this grisly attack.
