GALENA, Ill. (WLS) -- Two suspects wanted for assault in California were taken into custody in Galena, Illinois, after a police officer was shot at a motel east of the town overnight.
Andrew Cummings, 27, and Crystal MacLaughlin, 37, were caught around 5:45 a.m. Wednesday after a five-hour manhunt, the Jo Daviess County Sheriff's Office said.
The shooting occurred around 12:55 a.m. Sheriff's deputies immediately launched a search for the suspects in the area of US Hwy 20 near Gear Street. US Hwy 20 was closed from Gear Street to Bench Street in Galena. Traffic was rerouted onto Gear Street.
Investigators said Cummings and MacLaughlin are wanted by the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Office in California on felony warrants for assault.
There is no word yet on the circumstances of the shooting or the condition of the officer involved.
