CHICAGO (WLS) -- Huge crowds will gather in downtown Chicago over Memorial Day weekend to honor all the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice: defending and protecting our country.

The city's Memorial Day Parade steps off at noon, Saturday. It is preceded by a wreath laying ceremony at the eternal flame on Daley Plaza.

Jim Frazier from Illinois Gold Star Families and Victor LaGroon, Director of the City of Chicago Veterans' Affairs, stopped by ABC 7 to explain the importance of this holiday.
