Academy Award winner, Lupita Nyong'o, stars in a new film, "Queen of Katwe."

CHICAGO -- Academy Award winner, Lupita Nyong'o, stars in a new film, "Queen of Katwe," that is based on a true story of a young girl living on the streets of Uganda whose life is turned upside down when introduced to the game of chess.

Nyong'o plays the role of Harriet, the prodigy chess player's mother. The film also stars Golden Globe nominee, David Oyelowo.

The movie was filmed in East Africa in Uganda. Nyong'o reflects on what it's like for her to return to her home of East Africa; as the actress is originally from Kenya.

Disney's "Queen of Katwe" opens in theaters on Friday, September 23, 2016.
