NAPERVILLE, Ill. (WLS) -- Police are investigating a string of burglaries inside the locker room at a west suburban gym.

Police say thieves have targeted the XSport Fitness facility in Naperville, one of dozens of locations the company operates throughout the Chicago area.

"We're still investigating right now. We're trying to determine if the suspect is using some type of tool to get into these lockers," Naperville Police Cmdr. Jason Arres said.

Police said there have 11 reported thefts from lockers in the gym since August, including five so far this month. In some cases, police said someone stole car keys from a locker, then found the car in the parking lot and stole items from the car.

"In most of these cases we're seeing amounts of cash taken, a couple of electronic items such as iPads and iPhones have also been some targeted items. Those would be the highest-ticket items," Arres said.

A spokesperson for XSport said there are no cameras in the locker room so they have no video of the thefts and no employee has witnessed anything. But they are fully cooperating with police.

In a statement, XSport said: "We don't want this to happen. We are very concerned. In the vast majority of these cases the customer left the locker unlocked."

"There are a couple that were unlocked lockers, no locking device at all. So we would implore our residents - whether it's their car, their house, lockers at a health club - please, lock your stuff up. Lock your valuables," Arres said.

Only members have access to XSport facilities, so police suggest that it's like a member, a guest or someone with a temporary pass who is responsible for the thefts.

At this point, police said they have no suspects.
