Aurora man, 64, fatally shot; $5K reward offered for info leading to arrest

AURORA, Ill. (WLS) -- A 64-year-old Aurora man was shot and killed Sunday morning, police said.

Police responded to a home in the 800-block of Iowa Avenue at about 12:35 a.m. and found a man, identified by police as Samuel Smith Jr., suffering from a gunshot wound. Smith was transported Presence Mercy Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Smith's girlfriend was inside the home at the time and was asleep on the second floor, police said. She and one other person both told police they heard more than one gunshot being fired.

An autopsy on Smith is scheduled for Monday at the Kane County Coroner's Office in Geneva.
