CHICAGO (WLS) -- Two men were robbed, one beaten, early Wednesday around the same time near the John Hancock Center.

Police don't yet know whether these two robberies are related but say they share similar circumstances.

They both happened around 2 a.m. The first was at 172 East Chestnut Street. Police say two men approached a 35-year-old man from behind. They hit him and took his backpack, getting away with a cell phone and wallet. That victim was taken to Saint Joseph's Hospital and is expected to be OK.

The second robbery targeted a 32-year-old homeless man who was sleeping on a bench near 725 North Fairbanks. He told police he woke up to two men searching through his pockets. The victim told police the men were holding some kind of object - potentially a weapon the man couldn't identify. The robbers ran away with nothing and the victim wasn't hurt.

Police couldn't offer a description of the suspects but ask anyone with information to call Area Central investigators.
