A home designed and built by students in a high school math class was on the move on Monday morning as the two-story house was moved through an Evanston neighborhood.

The house was built by Evanston Township High School students and will be given to a family in need.

After nearly a year of work, the house was finally complete.

"I just thought it was really interesting, just building a house, like, just saying, like, I built a house," said student Arianda Velazquez

A two-story home, built from the bottom up, was all done by the hands of a group of 100 students at Evanston Township High School.

"We basically start with an empty parking lot," said Evanston Township High School teacher Matthew Kaiser.

Then math and construction came together.

It's all part of the geometry in construction class, which is now in its fourth year.

On Monday morning, crews made the slow trek of moving the house to its new location in the 1500 block of Emerson in Evanston.

The unique high school course was created from an idea from a group of people in Colorado. The affordable homes go to qualified families who could really use the help while the knowledge gained by the students is priceless.

"They realize not only the impact it's having on their lives, to learn the geometry through the construction, but they also realize the impact, not only on the community, but on another family's life that will eventually live in the home," said Kaiser.

"I feel happy for the family that they get to get a house, and I'm really excited to see it actually be used as a house," said Velazquez.

It will take about a year for the family to put on the finishing touches and move into their new home. Some of the students said they plan on being at the house when that family gets there for the ribbon-cutting.
