Accused serial rapist Marc Winner released from jail on bond

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Marc Winner, a Chicago tanning salon owner charged with raping four women who were either employees or customers, has bonded out of jail.

After posting bond, Marc Winner literally ran away from the Cook County Jail. The tanning salon owner and accused rapist refused to answer reporters' questions, instead sprinting two blocks north on California Avenue. He weaved in and out of traffic, at one point dropping documents and narrowly avoiding oncoming cars.

Bail was set at $500,000 for the first two rape charges, and additional bail of $125,000 was set for the third and fourth charges. Winner paid a total of $62,500 to get out of jail. He has been outfitted with an electronic ankle bracelet and was given a 7 p.m. curfew while awaiting trial.

Winner's West Loop tanning salon, Soleil, was shut down by the city in May for operating without a valid business license. Winner was initially denied bail and has been held in Cook County Jail since he was charged in his the third rape case in April. His lawyers had submitted a motion to review his bond in late July.

At least one of the women accusing Winner of rape was upset to find out he had been released.

"He strangled us. He strangled me. And the first bond judge was correct, he is a danger. Nothing has changed, nothing at all," said Lesley Barton, who is one of Winner's accusers.

Winner was picked up by a young woman.
