All-clear given at O'Hare after suspicious package reported

Suspicious package causes confusion at O'Hare
A report of a suspicous package at O'Hare caused a traffic mess and confusion among travelers Tuesday night.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A suspicious package at O'Hare Airport snarled traffic and created confusion for travelers Tuesday night.

Chicago police and fire were called to Terminal 3, where traffic in and out of the lower level ground to a halt during the investigation.

The investigation also caused a traffic jam getting to O'Hare, with a line of traffic backing up to Mannheim Rd. for a time.

Officials directed passengers to use the upper level for departures and arrivals. Passengers were left wondering what was going on.

"When we got off, the fellow in a wheelchair said there was a problem, that somebody had a suspicious package," said Larry Levin, a traveler.

"There was fire trucks and a couple of the first responders were in suits and they were really not telling anybody what was going on, but they were just getting people out," said Ross Hadlock, a traveler.

Chicago police gave the all-clear around 8 p.m. after determining a rice cooker that had been left on a garbage can was not a threat.
