Chicago-area post offices open Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve

CHICAGO (WLS) -- All Chicago-area post offices will be open on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, and New Year's Eve, Dec. 31, but will be open for different, shorter hours, the United States Postal Service said.

All Chicago post offices in ZIP Codes 606, 607 and 608 will open at their regular times and close at 12 p.m. on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, with the exception of the Main Post Office at 433 W. Harrison Street, which will close at 5 p.m.

All post offices in ZIP Codes 600, 601, 602, 603, 604 and 605 will open at their regular times and close at 12 p.m. on both Christmas and New Year's Eves, with some notable exceptions. The Melrose Park and Elgin Main post offices will close at 3 p.m. Post offices in Batavia, Berwyn, Bolingbrook, Calumet City, Carol Stream, La Grange, Matteson, Naperville Main, Oak Forest, Oak Park, Orland Park Main Post Office, Plainfield, Saint Charles, Schaumberg, Tinley Park and Woodridge will close at 5 p.m.

USPS said it will also be delivering on Christmas Day, but only mail with specified Christmas Day delivery. And, unlike other parts of the federal government, USPS will be open the Fridays after Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
