CHICAGO (WLS) -- There was a problem Tuesday night for people trying to beat the midnight deadline to get their Chicago city vehicle stickers.

The long lines of last-minute customers are causing delays with the third-party vendor the city uses to process ticket sales. The city is now extending the deadline until Wednesday at 11:59 p.m.

Residents can purchase a city sticker in-person at city clerk's offices, third party vendors and online without a late fee.

The old stickers officially expired June 30. But a two-week grace period gave drivers a little more time to buy the decal.

If drivers still need to get one after Wednesday night, they will be charged a $60 late fee.
