CHICAGO (WLS) -- There will be more summer job and after-school options for Chicago youth next year. The city plans increasing funding to those programs by $2 million.

The money will allow the city to offer 24,000 jobs and nearly 17,000 after-school programs to children and young adults this summer, the mayor's office said.

When Mayor Rahm Emanuel took office in 2011, there were only 14,000 jobs and nearly 13,000 after-school opportunities available.
