CHICAGO (WLS) -- Karl Trujillo, a convicted sex offender, was charged after police said he was approaching children outside a school in Chicago's Clearing neighborhood.

Police arrested Trujillo after a school administrator saw him outside the school in the 6300-block of South New England Avenue around 3 p.m. Wednesday and learned he didn't have children enrolled at the school. The school administrator confronted Trujillo and alerted an off-duty officer, who called 911.

The 39-year-old man tried to run when officers arrived, police said. They caught him after a brief chase, but resisted their attempts to take him into custody.

Trujillo, of the 7300-block of West Archer Avenue, was charged for being in a school zone, reckless conduct and resisting a peace officer. He is due in bond court on Friday.
