Couple outraged over 11th crash into their fence

HESPERIA, Calif. -- Hesperia, Calif., resident Warren Jones might not be upset about someone crashing into the chain-link fence in front of his house - if it hadn't been repaired a month ago.

Jones said this is the 11th time this has happened and, more often than not, these are hit and runs.

"I've had it up to here," he said.

Jones said on Sunday a driver was coming down the street at nearly 60 mph and went right past the stop sign at the corner. He said the driver skidded off of the road before crashing into his fence. The driver fled but was eventually caught and arrested.

Jones and his wife, Joan Marie, joke that they have more photos of these types of crashes than of their grandchildren. The couple attributes the problem to a poorly placed stop sign that nobody obeys.

"If a cop parked over here on a corner he could write 50 tickets a day because nobody stops," Jones said.

A few years ago, Jones spent thousands of dollars on large rocks, concrete posts and heavy-duty chains that he placed along his fence line to act as a protective barrier. He even parked their old Chevy Suburban in front of their house to protect them in case a car crashed through the fence.

"If those rocks were not there he would have come all the way through and hit me," his wife said.

The couple said they asked the city for help but it has gotten them nowhere. When asked to comment on the issue, a spokesperson for the city of Hesperia said they are looking into the issue.
