Fine arts school opens in Lawndale

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Music, dancing and fun helped celebrate the grand opening on Thursday of a new fine arts school in Chicago's Lawndale neighborhood.

The Celestial Ministries School of Fine Arts offers music and fine arts classes, as well as tutoring.

It's the newest program offered by a non-profit that provides services for Chicago youth, many of whom are struggling with parental incarceration.

ABC7 Eyewitness News Special Projects Producer Sylvia Jones was honored with the organization's Service Award during a ceremony on Thursday.

Celestial Ministries also offers prison ministry services for families and is planning to open a youth garden to provide access to fresh food.
