Active shooter situation in west Houston
A tense standoff ended in west Houston with eight people shot, two fatally.

HOUSTON -- Houston police have declared the situation involving an active shooter in west Houston is now over. Streets will soon be reopened.

One suspect is dead at the scene. One suspect was wounded and has been transported to an area hospital, according to Houston police. There's no word on the extend of his injuries. The Harris County Precinct 5 Constable's Office said at one point they believed may have been a third shooting suspect.

One person was found dead inside a vehicle. No identities have been released at this time.

The shooting began this morning, when gunfire erupted in west Houston, in the 13000 block of Memorial Drive near Wilcrest.

Fire was set to the gas station where it all began, with flames gutting the inside of that building.

There were reports of suspects opening fire randomly in the streets. Vehicles were struck and windows broken. We've heard at least one woman was reported struck in the leg, with minor injuries. It's still unknown what prompted the violence.

The Houston Police Department was asking residents in the area to shelter in place during the violence and investigation.
