Federal grant money totaling $80 million is coming to Illinois for early childhood education.

Gov. Pat Quinn called this an "exciting day" for Illinois, as 36 states competed for the money. Illinois was one of 18 to receive grants.

The funding will be used to provide children from low-income households below 200 percent of the poverty level with access to early childhood education.
