CHICAGO (WLS) -- Leonardo Matias, the 21-year-old victim of a drive-by shooting near Truman College in Chicago's Uptown neighborhood, died one day after he was shot. Police said he was not the intended target.

Matias, a fire safety worker, was recharging fire extinguishers in the 1100-block of West Wilson Avenue around 10 a.m. Tuesday. A gunman opened fire as Matias walked back to his work vehicle. Matias was struck by a bullet in the back of the head.

Police said he was an innocent bystander.

Matias' family said they are not looking for vengeance. They just want to get through this unthinkable loss.

"They're grieving and very hurt right now. We're trying to comfort them with words, praying with them, reading the bible to them," the family's pastor, Samuel Guerrero, said.

There are about six private security cameras mounted on the facades of buildings across the street from where the shooting occurred. ABC7 was told at least one of the cameras captured video of the shooter's car as it proceeded about a block down the street before turning down North Racine Avenue.

Police believe the intended target ducked into a nearby business to take cover.

Authorities are still looking for the gunman.
