Man allegedly attacked woman for apparent 'happiness'

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A 25-year-old Chicago man is charged with attempted murder after he allegedly attacked a woman because she looked happy.

According to prosecutors, Jessie White was sitting on the steps of a church on West 40th Place when the woman walked by with her daughter.

He allegedly came at them with a knife. The girl got away and ran to alert her father. He came and rescued his wife.

Investigators believe the woman's apparent "happiness" made White angry.
