Man charged in mom's fatal stabbing while grandma on phone screams in courtroom

A man accused of killing his mother appeared in court today. Miya Shay reports.

Emotions were high in a downtown Houston courtroom Monday morning as we got our first glimpse of a man accused in the murder of his own mother.

Blake Jefferson broke down as he faced a judge on charges in the death of Alief ISD Trustee Dedre Jefferson.

The son of an Alief ISD board member, Blake Jefferson, has now been charged with his mother's murder.



Jefferson's 22-year-old son was taken from the courtroom, screaming and sobbing as officers escorted him out.

His family members who were there in the courtroom also left in tears.

This has been an understandably difficult time for the Jefferson family.

A family pastor says the man accused of killing his mom was communicating with God



Early Friday morning, Dedre Jefferson called her elderly mother to say Blake was not acting in his right mind, according to investigators.

A short time later, there was a scream over the phone receiver, and Dedre reportedly told her mother that Blake was stabbing her.
When Dedre Jefferson's mother arrived at their townhome in the Alief area, she found her daughter's body inside the home.

The friend of man accused of killing mother speaks out about the days leading up to Dedre Jefferson's death.


Blake, meantime, was found by police hiding inside a neighbor's townhome after allegedly breaking in.

We have since learned that Blake Jefferson's family had recently become concerned about his mental health.



The family pastor told Eyewitness News on Friday that Blake had expressed concerns about spirituality, and said he was receiving visions and communications from God.

Blake Jefferson now faces a murder charge. His bond has been set at $50,000.
