Woman overdoses in store
A woman was arrested after she overdosed in a store, her child crying at her side

LAWRENCE, Mass. -- Disturbing cell phone video from Massachusetts shows a woman collapsing after overdosing on drugs while shopping at a Family Dollar store with her 2-year-old daughter.

The child is seen screaming and tugging on her mom.

Paramedics were able to revive the woman. She's now facing child endangerment charges.

Police say while they wish the person taking the video had helped the frantic child, the clip is a key piece of evidence in a child endangerment charge, combined with drug paraphernalia found in the woman's bag -- straws and baggies with drug residue.

They believe she had overdosed on an oral version of heroin or an opiate-based narcotic like Fentanyl.

She finally came to after two doses of Narcan.

The little girl is in protective custody.

Police say they hope sharing this video will alert people to the horrific consequences of drug use -- something not seen by the public every day but ever-present to first responders.

Chief James Fitzpatrick of the Lawrence Police Department estimates in 10 percent of drug situations they respond to, children are present. He said, "They can see firsthand the power of the narcotic and fentanyl, and she's lucky to be alive."
