CHICAGO (WLS) -- The mother of Nate Johnson, the man who jumped from the third floor of a Roseland apartment building to escape an extra-alarm fire that killed four children, has filed a lawsuit.

Johnson and his girlfriend, Shamaya Coleman, jumped out of the building together. Coleman was the mother of the four children who died in the fire: Carliysia Clark, 15; Carlvon Calrk, 13; Shamarion Clark, 12; and Eri'ana Smith, 7.

The lawsuit claims the building's owner and management company didn't equip the apartment with fire escape routes and working smoke detectors.

ABC7 Eyewitness News was unable to reach them for comment.

The fire broke out early Monday near East 112th Street and South Vernon Avenue.
