Naval recruit Andrew Adams died just four days before he was to graduate from Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill.

GREAT LAKES, Ill. (WLS) -- Andrew Adams, a 20-year-old recruit, died during training at the Navy base in Great Lakes, Ill.

Adams, who is from Sarasota, Fla., lost consciousness during a leisure period at Recruit Training Command on December 1, according to the military. He was pronounced dead by medical personnel at the health center.

"Recruit Andrew Adams was an outstanding Sailor," said Capt. Doug Pfeifle, commanding officer at Recruit Training Command, said through a statement. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to his entire family. His loss is felt by all of his fellow recruits and the entire Recruit Training Command staff."

The Navy is investigating and the cause of death is unknown.

Adams had been in training since October 7 and was going to be an avionics technician. His graduation was Friday.
