CHICAGO (WLS) -- There was more security and an apology Saturday from Navy Pier after a brawl Friday night forced the early closure of the Winter Wonderfest exhibit.

"It's really bad," Danielle Hill said. "It's Christmas time, it's supposed to be family time and I don't think that that should have happened."

Five people were arrested and charged with reckless conduct after several fights broke out around 8 p.m. Friday night. Those responsible for sparking the brawl range from 12-17 years-old and were there without their parents when the fights broke out, police say.

The brawl shut down the popular tourist attraction and left a pregnant woman hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

"They got more security here so I figure that it's safe for the kids to come down and play," said Tondell Bickart.

Navy Pier sketch artist Erik Carrillo says the fights involved at least 100 teenagers.

"It's been way more security (Saturday) and I feel way more safe right now," he said.

Police say reports of gunfire were unfounded.

Although Navy Pier normally increases its security when students are out of school, spokesperson Nick Shields said that because of the incident, there will be other precautions taken.

"If you are under 18, you will have to come to Navy Pier with a parent or legal guardian, otherwise you will not be able to enter Winter Wonderfest," Shields said.

For a 14th year, Navy Pier has played host to Winter Wonderfest. Organizers claim it is Chicago's biggest and best indoor winter playground featuring 170,000 square feet of rides, giant slides and ice skating rink.

"Our son and his family live in Uganda, so this is quite an experience for their kids," said Debbie Ottabaino.

Navy Pier officials will not give any specifics about their enhanced security, only saying that there is more security on hand to make sure that things stay safe.

Attendance was on par, with 4,000-plus visitors Saturday. They expect the security measures to stay in place until the end of Winter Wonderfest.
