CHICAGO (WLS) -- Metra has heard the public's thoughts on a planned 10.8 percent fare increase and on Nov. 14, board members are expected to vote on the proposal.
Riders may have a tough time swallowing that news.
But Metra says the money is needed to fund a modernization plan that includes upgrading locomotives and cars. The agency also needs to pay for what's called the "positive train control safety system."
And then Metra says there are operating costs that are on the rise, just as they are for other businesses.
