ELMHURST, Ill. (WLS) -- Authorities have charged a man and woman they believe staged a robbery at a Shell gas station in Elmhurst.

Early Tuesday, police say an overnight employee, Simone Boyd, 21, and her boyfriend, Brandon Morris, 21, staged what appeared to be a robbery of the store, which could be seen on surveillance video.

The employee left the store with Morris after he jumped the counter and took money from the register, police said. Both Morris and Boyd were seen on video leaving the store together leading police to believe that the incident was a robbery/abduction, police said.

Both were later captured in Cook County where the stolen money was recovered, police said. Both have been charged with felony theft and are being held in DuPage County Jail pending a bond hearing.
