Police investigate drowning death of 12-year-old in Arlington Heights

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (WLS) -- Police are investigating the drowning death of a 12-year-old in northwest suburban Arlington Heights, officials said.

Police and fire officials arrived at the Tanglewood Apartment Complex swimming pool in the 2100-block of S. Goebbert Road around noon Sunday, officials said, finding the victim unconscious and not breathing.

The victim was with a friend and cousin visiting a family friend in the complex, officials said, when the friend and a cousin saw the victim drowning and alerted complex employees, police said.

The victim was transported to Northwest Community Hospital and pronounced dead Tuesday morning, police said.

Police are continuing to investigate.
