CAMDEN, N.J. -- A Camden County police officer is among 40 people arrested and charged in connection with a drug trafficking network that authorities say distributed more than $1 million worth of heroin and crack cocaine annually in Camden and the surrounding suburbs.

The arrests, announced Wednesday morning, were the result of a months-long investigation dubbed Operation Southern District.

28-year-old Ashley Bailey, a Camden County police officer, has been charged with official misconduct, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, conspiracy and other offenses.

She faces up to 30 years behind bars if convicted.

The Camden County prosecutor said Bailey is the wife of one of the alleged members of the organization.

Bailey is the wife of 30-year-old Edwin Ingram, an alleged member of the network and brother of Nathan Ingram - one of the alleged ringleaders.

According to authorities, Bailey shared confidential police information with the drug organization.

The three alleged ringleaders - 31-year-old Donyell Calm, 33-year-old Kareem Anderson, and 35-year-old Nathan Ingram - were arrested in a series of raids conducted Tuesday morning as part of Operation Southern District, prosecutors said, along with 25 dealers and buyers and a number of others. A fourth man, 21-year-old Lawrence Brown of Camden, remains at large.

Authorities also seized 8,000 bags heroin, 1,000 bags of crack cocaine and 10 pounds of marijuana with a combined street value of $85,000.

They also seized $11,000 in cash and 4 weapons.

Ingram, Calm and Anderson are charged with Leading a Narcotic Trafficking Network, Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Dangerous Substance and Conspiracy. Brown is facing the same charges, and if convicted all four are facing at least 20 years in prison.

Calm is also facing other charges, including Attempted Murder, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose for an April shooting in Camden. One man was injured in that incident.
