GLENDALE HEIGHTS, Ill. (WLS) -- Police are searching for suspects in connection with a reported child abduction attempt in Glendale Heights.

Investigators are questioning people who live in the area, but few are aware the abduction attempt ever happened.

"This is scary for me. You know, like I said, my granddaughter is 3-years-old. And even though she has older brothers, they're usually in school and to know somebody like that is walking around, that is very upsetting to me," said Patricia Ferguson.

The girl told police she was playing in front of her building on the 200-block of Water's Edge Drive around 12:30 p.m. Sunday. She says a man approached and grabbed her, then tried to drag her away. The girl screamed and said she ran away to tell her parents, who then called police.

"We do have some neighbors in the area who did hear her scream, but nobody else saw the offender because he had already fled," Ewoldt said.

Officers arrived Monday morning for another round of knocking on doors. Police say there is a lot of ground to cover and little information to go on.

"It's a condo complex and it's pretty congested up there. So, it was pretty easy for him to disappear at that location," said Glendale Heights Deputy Police Chief Steve Ewoldt.

Investigators say they're looking for a black man with a large build and a bald head. He may have a tuft of hair in the back and he was wearing all black clothing.

Police say abduction attempts are rare in the area and they ask anyone with information to contact authorities.
