PARK RIDGE, Ill. (WLS) -- Police are searching for suspects who are using BB guns to shoot out car windows.

The first attack happened Tuesday near Talcott Avenue in northwest suburban Park Ridge.

A 70-year-old mother and her daughter said as they were heading northbound on their way home from work to Mount Prospect, a BB or pellet gun shattered their car's driver side window.

"We investigated the car and it definitely looked like a projectile or a BB had shattered her front window as she was driving, you know, very dangerous," said Deputy Chief Lou Jogmen.

As officers swarmed the Forest Preserve area looking for a suspect, two drivers, a 44-year-old Park Ridge man and a 45-year-old Park Ridge resident told investigators they had been targeted as well.

Both said someone had shot out the rear passenger side window of their vehicles.

All the incidents happened between 7:45 and 8:15 p.m. Tuesday night.

On Wednesday afternoon, police said they would increase patrols in the area and warned motorists to be careful.

"Anybody driving on our west side of town near the forest preserves - for the time being, until we can hopefully bring this to resolution - drive with your window up," said Deputy Chief Jogmen. "It gives you a little added protection against a projectile. Having your window down just exposes you at this point."

No suspects are in custody, but detectives said a jogger in the area saw two teenage boys in the woods and one of them had a pellet gun in his waistband.
