Police: Woman lures kids with candy; man stalks girl walking home from school

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago police sent out two child safety-alerts overnight. Both incidents occurred near parks and schools on the North Side - and the details are disturbing.

Around 6:30 p.m. on April 20, two children were fetching a dodgeball that landed between two fences in the 6700-block of North Whipple Street. That's near Chippewa Park in the city's Rogers Park neighborhood.

Police said a woman in the passenger seat of a black SUV tried to lure the children to her, promising candy. The children ran home to their parents.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian woman in her twenties. She had covered her head with a dark scarf.

Police said there was a man behind the wheel. He is described as a Caucasian man in his late teens or early twenties. He was wearing a baseball cap with a straight brim and a t-shirt.

In the second alert, police said a girl was walking home from Roosevelt High School in Chicago's Albany Park neighborhood around 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Police said a man driving a white Jeep pulled up to her in the 4500-block of North St. Louis Avenue, honked his horn and motioned for the girl to come over. She tried to ignore him, but he became angry and wouldn't let up.

She manage to go inside a store in the 3500-block of West Montrose Avenue and call 911. Police said he waited outside the store for a few minutes before driving away.

The suspect is described as a bald, Caucasian or Hispanic man in his early forties.
