CHICAGO (WLS) -- Police in Baltimore are working to keep any further violence from happening Monday night after seven officers were hurt in protests.

There is chaos in the streets of Baltimore Monday night, not just one part of the city and not under control. Maryland National Guard has been put on standby and the gates are closed at Camden Yards, where the Chicago White Sox were supposed to play the Orioles, but the game has been canceled because of safety.

Violence started just after the funeral of 25-year-old Freddie Gray, who died last week after being in police custody. The streets are up for grabs, with police saying that criminals are responsible for what is happening, not protesters.

Seven police officers were injured, some seriously. Free-for-all looting at several drug stores with police nowhere in sight as merchandise is being walked out the front door. Nearby police vehicles are torched and burned up.

Baltimore Police say there is a credible threat against law enforcement officers by three gangs that authorities say entered into a partnership to "take-out" police. That announcement came from police as the funeral of Freddie Grey was underway.

There were thousands of mourners at New Shiloh Baptist Church, including the Reverend Jesse Jackson, who said Gray was a victim of inequality. Jackson said Gray's west side Baltimore neighborhood needs jobs and housing.

Rev. Jackson told the I-Team he blames city officials for the street violence.

"They closed school early and then cut off transportation, kids couldn't get home and then the police came in and escalated to what you are seeing now on television," he said.

The CVS drug store that was cleaned out by looters Monday afternoon was set on fire a and is still burning. One thousand additional Baltimore City Police are being put on the street Monday night, with county deputies with riot gear and Maryland State Police joining the fray.

President Barack Obama and Attorney General Loretta Lynch are both looped in with Baltimore only 40 miles to the north.
