Sen. Alan Dixon memorial services begin

BELLEVILLE, Ill. (WLS) -- Memorial services for former U.S. Sen. Alan Dixon are beginning in downstate Belleville.

Dixon died last weekend just one day before his 87th birthday as a result of heart problems.

The visitation for Dixon is Sunday at 3 p.m., and the funeral is Monday at 11 a.m. Both will be at Lindenwood University.

Dixon was in the U.S. senate from 1981 to 1993. Before that, he served in the Illinois House and Senate, and was also Illinois treasurer and secretary of state.
