CHICAGO (WLS) -- The Earth Heart Foundation and Project Hood have teamed up to empower communities with a fresh call to action to keep people safe in violence-plagued neighborhoods.

They've launched a new campaign called "Sisters on the Street" and held a kickoff event Sunday night.

They are asking 5,000 women to sign up to monitor 500 blocks every weekend for the entire summer.
