SUV plunges into Northbrook retention pond

CHICAGO (WLS) -- An SUV plunged into a retention pond in Northbrook overnight. The Mercedes was fully submerged when police arrived.

The driver was able to get out on his own after the vehicle hit the water near Highland Road and Landwehr Road in the north suburb around midnight. He refused medical help at the scene.

Police said he was the only person in the vehicle.
