MONTREAL, Quebec (WLS) -- Video released Tuesday in Canada shows a daring prison escape using a helicopter in 2013.

The clip shows inmates Danny Provencal and Benjamin Hudon-Barbeau dangling from a rope above the St.-Jerome Detention Centre near Montreal, Quebec. Prosecutors revealed the video as part of the a trial for Hudon-Barbeau for unrelated charges.

It was an elaborate plot. Canadian media reports said that Billi Beaudoin and Steven Mathieu Marchisio had hired the helicopter and then hijacked it at gunpoint. They then had the pilot fly the aircraft to the prison; the pilot was not injured.

The inmates tried and failed to climb into the helicopter, so they clung to the rope while the chopper took off instead. The men were recaptured just a few hours later.

All four men pleaded guilty to charges related to the hijacking and escape and were given jail time.
