Home security video turned over to authorities in search for Fox Lake murder suspects
FOX LAKE, Ill. (WLS) -- Authorities said they have made "significant progress" Thursday as they search for three suspects in the fatal shooting of Lt. Gliniewicz in Fox Lake. Investigators went door to door at homes that have surveillance cameras, looking for any video that may be of use.
Lake County Major Crimes Task Force Cmdr. George Filenko said home security video from a private residence "within the area" was turned in by a citizen on Wednesday night. The video has been turned over to Homeland Security officials because they have the technology necessary to retrieve it, Filenko said.
"We're hoping to recover some significant evidence from what we did turn over to them," Filenko said.
Filenko said he has not reviewed the video yet, and could not comment on its quality or relevance to the investigation. However, Filenko said what the individual believes was captured on the video is consistent with their search for three suspects.

Officials also said a gun was recovered from the scene. Earlier Thursday, Cheif Filenko said that weapon belonged to Lt. Gliniewicz, but by Thursday night police backtracked to say they had recovered a weapon but would not confirm its ownership.
All evidence that was collected from the scene is being processed by the Northern Illinois Crime Lab. Some results are expected late Thursday or early Friday, Filenko said.
On Thursday, more than 100 investigators continue to canvas the Fox Lake area the morning after an allegedly false tip sent officers on a wild goose chase in nearby Volo and Lakemoor.
"We're presuming that there is a good probability that they are still somewhere in the area. Now whether they're in Fox Lake or one of the surrounding border communities, that remains to be seen," Filenko said.
FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR SLAIN OFFICER
The visitation and funeral for Lt. Joseph Gliniewicz will be held Monday, Sept. 7, at Antioch Community High School, at 133 Main Street.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. There will be a police walk-through from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m., followed by a procession to Hillside East Cemetery in Antioch.

A 30-year-old woman is charged with filing a false police report after she lied about spotting the suspects in the Fox Lake murder of Lt. Joseph Gliniewicz, authorities said.

Kristin Kiefer's claim prompted a massive five-hour search in Volo and Lakemoor overnight that rattled a community already on edge.
"I think it's horrible, I don't understand why somebody would do such a thing?" said Shon Ross, a Lakemoor resident.
"A lot of people lost sleep," said Eddie Alejandro, a Volo resident.
The Lake County sheriff's office said Kiefer told officers she pulled over at Rt. 12 and Rt. 120 in Volo for car trouble on Wednesday night. She alleged that two men, one white and one black, who were in a cornfield approached her and tried to steal her car. She said they ran away.
Nearly 100 state and local law enforcement authorities searched the area along with 11 canine and three air units from around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday until around 2:30 a.m. Thursday. Nothing was found.
Authorities said Kiefer later admitted to fabricating the entire story because she wanted attention from the family that she nannies for.
"Last night was an unfortunate incident that tied up a number of resources, including my detectives who were called in and put on standby. They could have been out there in the field following up on leads," Cmdr. Filenko said.
Kiefer, of Vernon Hills, was charged with two counts of disorderly conduct for falsifying a police report. One of those charges is a felony.
A judge set Kiefer's bond at $100,000 on Thursday; she bonded out at 2:30 p.m. She is due in court on Sept. 10.
