WAUKEGAN (WLS) -- Police in north suburban Waukegan are investigating a double homicide Sunday night.

A mother, her disabled daughter and the family dog were found dead inside a Waukegan townhome near Sunset and Delaney. Police say the husband was taken into custody. The incident happened at 6:15 Sunday night.

The 53-year-old man told a 911 operator that he killed his family. When officers arrived at the townhome, they found what is believed to the man's 50-year-old wife, 17-year-old disabled daughter and the family's dog dead inside the home.

"Officers responded to the scene, where they found what they believed to be a suicide note on the front porch," said Cmdr. Joe Florip, Waukegan Police Department. "Officers then entered and took a male suspect into custody and immediately got him medical attention."

Police will not say how the family was killed, or the motive behind it. Neighbors say they never knew of any problems with the family. They say the daughter was in a wheelchair.

"This is crazy," said neighbor Lakesta McClane. "I just don't understand why would he do such a thing like this to these people."

"It's nice over here," neighbor Saquorra Anderson said. "We never have any problems over here. It's quiet. For this to happen, it's terrible, shocking, sad."

Police say the man was taken to the hospital with what they believe are self-inflicted wounds. He is now under police guard. Charges have not been filed against him Sunday night and the names of the victims have not been released.
