WORTH, Ill. (WLS) -- A 35-year-old Worth man is accused of injuring his mother and killing his mother's dog, Cook County sheriff's police said.

Christopher Krentkowski has been charged with two counts of aggravated domestic battery and one count of aggravated animal cruelty. He received a $125,000 bond during his court appearance on Monday at the Bridgeview Courthouse.

On Saturday around 8:30 p.m., police say Krentkowski allegedly dragged his mother's 15-year-old dog out of a bedroom in the 11700 block of South Ridgeland Avenue in unincorporated Worth and began to kick it. When his 53-year-old mother told Krentkowski to stop, he tried to strangle her and struck her head with a bookcase, injuring her, according to sheriff's police.

Krentkowski then continued to physically assault the dog, causing its death, according to the investigation. Krentkowski was arrested Sunday. His next court date is scheduled for June 26 at the Bridgeview courthouse.
