YORKVILLE, Ill. (WLS) -- Dan Hoffmann, of Yorkville, won $1 million dollars - because he ran out of hamburgers at a barbecue.

Hoffmann was hosting a Fourth of July barbeque when he ran out of food and made a trip to a nearby Jewel-Osco store. While there, he also bought a Powerball ticket. A few days later while checking the numbers online, he was shocked to discover he had won.

"I can't believe I won a million dollars because we ran out of hamburgers!" he said. "I was shocked! I couldn't believe it and I don't think I slept at all that night!"

He says he plans to pay off his mortgage and invest with the winnings. This marks the second recent Yorkville lottery winning, as a $250,000 jackpot prize was claimed by a Yorkville man last week.
