Jewel is one of only three explosives dogs in the state.

DUPAGE COUNTY, Ill. (WLS) -- Deputy Ken Diebert and his canine companion Jewel patrol the DuPage County Courthouse every day. The key to Jewel's success is a green tennis ball, which she gets to play with whenever she detects explosives. And, to keep Jewel sharp, Diebert routinely hides a trace of explosives for Jewel to find during their rounds.

Jewel is one of only three explosives dogs in the state, but DuPage authorities are working with Lake County, which is considering a similar program.
