CHICAGO (WLS) -- A push to get out the vote united both Democrats and Republicans Saturday afternoon.

Governor Pat Quinn, Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka and Congressman Luis Gutierrez were among the officials who joined the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights for the launch of the New Americans Democracy Project.

The NADP is a non-partisan citizen voter registration and mobilization campaign aimed at engaging immigrants in the democratic process.

"It is so important that all of our immigrants who are coming to Illinois who have a chance to register to vote, now is the time to do it!" said Gov. Quinn.

The goal is to register nearly 40,000 new immigrant voters and get them to the polls on Election Day.
