Chicago woman Tanya Fermin told ABC7 she rescued an elderly woman from her burning vehicle on at Belmont and Orange avenues on the Northwest Side.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A Chicago woman told ABC7 she jumped into action Friday when she saw a car fire.

Tanya Fermin says she was working from home and saw smoke and flames coming from a car outside.

She lives on the Northwest Side, near West Belmont Avenue and North Orange Avenue.

Fermin says she ran outside and found an elderly woman trying to get her purse from the car.

Fermin told ABC7 the woman had to be taken to the hospital.

She's working to get back in touch with her to make sure she's doing okay.

No further information about the vehicle fire was available.
