Pilot killed in small plane crash in Ogle County, officials say

OGLE COUNTY, Ill. (WLS) -- A pilot died after a small plane crashed in Ogle County Tuesday morning, according to the Ogle County Sheriff's Office.

The crash happened near 2810 W. Illinois Route 64, Mount Morris at about 9:36 a.m., officials said.

When officers arrived, the aircraft was on fire, officials said.

The pilot, who was the only person on the plane, died in the crash.

During the crash, the aircraft struck multiple transmission lines belonging to ComEd, impacting electrical service in the area, officials said.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash.

The aircraft will likely remain at the scene until the federal investigation is completed.
