Hammond pastor drops sentence appeal in sex case

HAMMOND, Ind. (WLS) -- A former northwest Indiana minister is dropping an appeal of his sentence for taking an underage girl across state lines for sex.

Jack Schaap was pastor of First Baptist Church in Hammond.

He pleaded guilty in 2012 to having other church employees take the 16-year-old parishioner to Michigan and Illinois, claiming it was for counseling.

Schapp was sentenced to 12 years in prison.
