How to fake a pope selfie even if you didn't get to see Pope Francis

Can't make it to Philadelphia to see Pope Francis? Just fake your pope selfie! (ABC Owned Television Stations)

In the age of social media, it should come as no surprise that the ultimate souvenir from Pope Francis' historic trip to the United States is not a button or a T-shirt, but rather a selfie with the pontiff.

Over the past six days, any time Pope Francis has greeted the faithful in Washington D.C., New York or Philadelphia, there have been just as many outstretched smartphones as there have been open hands. When the pope visited Our Lady Queen of Angels School in East Harlem, he posed again and again with faithful tweens for photos destined for Instagram and Snapchat.

But what can you do if you weren't one of the thousands of people who ventured out to see the pope this week? Naturally, there's an app for that.

The "Pope Selfie" app lets users choose from several different poses to create their perfect papal pic.

May Feelings, which created the app, says it is "a service that connects people from all around the world to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of prayers, comments and messages."

Looking for a more low-tech option? Grab a Pope Francis cardboard standup and snap a quick shot with your new bestie.

Will the results fool anyone? Probably not. But hey, not all of us can end up with selfies like these:

So even if you weren't able to be on the front lines to see the pope in person this week, you can still show off to friends and family that you've been "hashtag blessed."
