CHICAGO (WLS) -- The non-profit group A Safe Haven is inviting runners to race in their 6th Annual 5K Run to End Homelessness. The run/walk will take place on Sunday, July 10, 2016 at 8:30am in Douglas Park in Chicago. The race raises money to continue A Safe Haven's goal of ending homelessness across the Chicago area.

A Safe Haven provided services and housing to almost 4,500 people in need including adult men and women, families and military veterans in 2015. One of the leading causes of homelessness is Behavioral Health, both addiction and mental well-being. Due to the growing concern of opioid addiction affecting all communities, A Safe Haven's leadership has decided to dedicate the 2016 5K RUN!/Walk to the issue of recovery. ABC 7's John Garcia met with co-founders of A Safe Haven, Neli Vazquez Rowland and Brian Rowland, to talk about the importance of the organization.
